the earth has a skin // poetry

First published on The Open End (June 6th 2011) //

the earth has a skin
a stretch of flesh,
reached for all sickness
and bound across
held in by pins
it pimples with people,
who grow like
volcanoes and live
dormant
crusted over,
who have
and will
stay like
this
for another 201
decades
or more
whether the skin
is there to burn
for them
or not.
